Yes — absolutely. Every engine in our stock is professionally tested and inspected before being listed for sale. Our testing process checks compression, oil pressure, timing, seals, gaskets, and all internal components. We do not sell untested parts. You can buy with full confidence that the engine has been verified to be in good working condition.

Yes. All engines sold by Calton Auto Spares come with a 3-month warranty. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and component failure. It does not cover damage caused by incorrect installation, overheating due to cooling system neglect, or misuse. We recommend having your engine installed by a qualified mechanic to preserve your warranty. See our Return Policy for full warranty terms.

Compatibility depends on the vehicle's make, model, year, and engine code. When you contact us, please provide these details and we'll confirm compatibility before any purchase. You can find the engine code on your vehicle's registration papers or on a sticker inside the engine bay. Our experienced team can advise on direct-fit replacements and any modifications that may be required.

Mileage varies by unit. We classify our engines as "Low Mileage" (typically under 120,000 km) and "Good Condition" (higher mileage but fully tested and reliable). The mileage and condition are disclosed on each listing. We recommend low-mileage units for high-performance applications or vehicles that will cover many kilometres annually.
GearBoxes

We stock all major gearbox types including manual (4, 5 and 6-speed), automatic (4, 5, 6 and 8-speed), DSG (dual-clutch), CVT (continuously variable transmission), as well as 4x4 transfer cases and differentials. Yes. All gearboxes are thoroughly tested before sale. For manual gearboxes we check all gear engagement, synchros, bearings, and seals. For automatics and DSG units, we perform full hydraulic pressure and shift quality tests. We do not sell units that have not passed our testing process.

Yes. All gearboxes come with our standard 3-month warranty. The warranty covers mechanical failure of the unit under normal operating conditions. It is voided by incorrect installation, use of incorrect fluids, or failure to maintain proper fluid levels. Always use the correct transmission fluid specified for your vehicle and have the unit installed by a qualified gearbox specialist.

A manual-to-automatic conversion (or vice versa) is possible but requires significant additional work — including changes to the ECU, gear selector, driveshaft, wiring, and pedal assembly. We strongly recommend consulting a professional gearbox specialist before attempting such a conversion. We can supply the correct unit; the conversion is the responsibility of your mechanic.

We accept EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) and cash payments. For export orders, we accept international bank transfers (SWIFT/IBAN). Payment is required before parts are dispatched. For in-store purchases, cash or EFT is accepted at our Gqeberha premises.

Delivery & Collection

Yes. We deliver to all major cities and towns across South Africa including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, East London, Polokwane, Nelspruit and more. Delivery is via courier and typically takes 1–3 business days to major centres. We use reputable freight companies to ensure safe delivery of heavy engine and gearbox units.

Delivery costs depend on the weight and size of the part and the destination. We provide a delivery quote as part of your overall parts quote. For Gqeberha and the surrounding Eastern Cape area, we can often arrange same-day or next-day delivery at a reduced cost. Contact us for a delivery estimate to your area.

Absolutely. You are welcome to collect in person from our warehouse at 138 Old Cape Road WH6, Greenbushes Industrial Park, Gqeberha. We are open Monday to Friday 8:00am–5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am–1:00pm. Please call ahead to confirm your part is ready before making the trip.

Yes — exports are a major part of our business. We export engines, gearboxes and other parts to 20+ African countries including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Lesotho, Swaziland, DRC and more. Returns & Warranty

We offer returns within 7 days for parts that have not been installed, subject to inspection. For warranty claims on installed parts, contact us within your 3-month warranty period and we will assess the claim. Parts must be returned in their original packaging where possible. Please read our full Return Policy for all terms and conditions.

The 3-month warranty covers internal mechanical failure of the engine or gearbox unit under normal operating conditions. It does not cover:
  • Damage caused by incorrect installation
  • Overheating due to coolant or oil neglect
  • Use of incorrect fluids or lubricants
  • Accidental damage or external impact
  • Normal wear and tear items (seals, gaskets installed by customer)
For a warranty claim, contact us with proof of purchase and a mechanic's written assessment of the fault.

If we supply an incorrect part due to our error, we will arrange collection and replacement at no cost to you. Please do not install a part you suspect is incorrect — contact us immediately with your order details and we will resolve it promptly. If you ordered a part based on incorrect information you provided, we will still try to assist but transport costs may apply.

Engines and gearboxes are our core products, but we also stock a range of related drivetrain components including differentials, transfer cases, cylinder heads, and other major mechanical parts. Our used parts are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) components sourced from written-off or high-mileage donor vehicles. They are genuine parts — not aftermarket replicas — and meet the original manufacturer specifications. Installation must comply with South African road worthiness regulations and should be done by a registered workshop.
